With ballet, modern dance and hip hop under my belt, I moved to Hamilton looking for a discipline that directly spoke to me.
I took a few ballroom courses offered by the city but when I was on vacation to Cuba, I immediately fell in love with salsa! I explored the art with fervor and took various classes with Salsa Soul’s events, Alegria Dance Company, Nuvitzo, BASo, and United Salseros to name a few.
I have performed a handful of times at Salsa Congresses/festivals, but fundamentally, I truly enjoyed the dancing aspect and engaging with every partner I danced with at socials.
I primarily trained with Alegria Dance Company since 2016 and I was given the once in a lifetime opportunity to teach in 2019 until March of 2020.
Since then, I have been finding ways to inspire budding salseros and salseras with a salsa curriculum that incorporated everything I learnt from Tito Ortiz’s salsa certification course, Leah Fuller’s mentorship and of course what I learnt from previous students.
I also continue to learn from the online teaching course offered from My Salsa Online and do look forward to using these skills with you as well!
The highlights of my career as a dancer last year (2022) was social dancing with Eddie Torres Jr at the New York Salsa Congress! I also got to perform a wonderful group number with Studio G’s Cornell Mannings in Montreal, and personally won 4 awards in heats with him as well (1st in Newcomer Hustle, 2nd in Salsa on 2 Intermediate over 40, and 3rd in Salsa on 1 Intermediate, and Intermediate over 40 at the Toronto Salsa Congress.
My highlight as a teacher was when I attended Fernando Sosa’s (Tropical Gem) choreoraphy workshop, as well as received certification in the latin teacher training program AND choreography course with Internationally known latin dancer, Anya Katsevman!
Whether it is the dance steps, body movement or even spiritual growth, I wants the roots of salsa musicality to stay strong in the curriculum that I mold as my own and look forward to sharing that with you!
